BOOK DRIVE:  FBLA teamed up with Key Club to collect over 300books for Literacy Volunteers of Greater New Haven.  The book drive ran from November 28th through December 9th.  Thanks to the English department for supporting these efforts.

 

 

State Fall Leadership Conference: Monday, October 24th

Members of Maloney High School’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)  attended the State Fall Leadership Conference at the Crowne Plaza in Southbury, Connecticut.  Students had the opportunity to attend a variety of workshops designed to develop leadership skills and meet with members of other FBLAs from around the state.  Keynote speaker Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman spoke to the students about Connecticut’s economy.

 

National Fall Leadership Conference: November 4-5, Philadelphia, PA

Members of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) from Maloney High School in Meriden and Cheshire High School attended the National Fall Leadership Conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Students had the opportunity to meet with students from throughout the country and attend a variety of workshops designed to help students Discover their Greatness.    Workshop topics included using social media for business, launching an online company, dressing for success, networking, personal finance and many more.  Upon returning from the conference students have already begun to apply what they learned and plan activities to support their communities including a book drive and bowl-a-thon. 

Congratulations to all members who attended the Spring Conference!  Maloney’s FBLA received an Outstanding Bronze Chapter Award.  The team of Jamie E., Taylor S., and Sarah H. won third place in the Global Business competition.  While, Amber W. placed 5th in Word Processing 2.  Members Cassandra H. and Amber W. can be seen in the video below, covering Governor Dannel P. Malloy’s keynote speech.

 Reminder:  Dues must be paid to participant in any field trips.

Members of the Maloney High School FBLA have the opportunity to develop business leadership skills while earning volunteer service hours helping members of our community, supporting school activities and attending conferences in both the spring and fall.  Several of our members have qualified for competition at the National level, as well.  FBLA-PBL is the largest student business organization in the country with over 250,000 members.

Future Business Leaders of America is a nonprofit education association of students preparing to pursue careers in business or business-related fields. The FBLA mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs. Becoming a member of FBLA gives you the competitive edge through career exploration, self-improvement, and community service opportunities. Este grupo prepara a los estudiantes interesados en las carreras de negocios. Su misi�n es de unir a negocios y educacion en una relacion positiva a traves de programas innovativos. El ser miembro de esta organizacion les dar  oportunidad de explorar carreras, ayudar en la comunidad y mejorar su propia personalidad. Tendran la oportunidad de desarrollar sus resumes, conocer a lederes de negocios en la comunidad, hacer trabajo voluntario y disfrutar de actividades especiales.

In recognition of American Enterprise Day members toured Bristol-Meyers Squibb, a multi-national pharmaceutical company.  Members participated in a panel discussion with employees from several different departments.

Thank you to all of the members who volunteered at the Project Graduation Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, November 20th.  We were able to sell several of our “crush” shirts while supporting a good cause.

Go team!Maloney’s FBLA will be participating in the Annual March of Dimes Walkathon.��� This year’s 4 mile walk takes place on Sunday, May, 2011.

Pumpkin carving at the Meriden Boys and Girls Club was a great success!  Thirty club members each took home a jack-o-lantern, candy bag and pumpkins seeds.  Thank you to all FBLA members who participated.  See Mrs. Moore or Mrs. Savago for your community service hour forms.
